Carla’s Song by Harry Styles is his 12th and final track on his fourth solo album Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally. The song is a celebration to the joy of discovery and experiencing the beauty of life, almost in the manner of an encouragement to wake up to the world around you. The lyrics of the song seem to portray the journey from innocence to experience, from slumber or ignorance to heightened awareness of the world and its possibilities. The repetition of the lines “I know what you like” and “it’s all waiting there for you” seems to portray a sense of encouragement, almost as if the singer is telling the reader to wake up and experience the world around them through the things that give them joy. Carla's Song Lyrics

There is a bridge that leads to troubled waters
If you know, then you know
If you don't, then you don't
That's heavenly

From your head to your toes
Saw the light in the gold that you discovered

Through your eyes, in awe
Melodies like the tide

It's all waiting there for you
It's all waiting there for you
Can you hear that voice delivering the news?
It's all waiting there for you

Ignorance or innocence
Call it what you wanna

You've been a baby sleeping upon a candy bar
Till your eyes open on the changing summer light

It's all waiting there for you
Can you hear that voice delivering the news?
It's all waiting there for you
It's all waiting there for you

Call it what you wanna

I know what you like, I know what you'll really like
I know what you like, I don't have to read your mind
I know what you like, I know what you'll really like
I know what you like, you can hear it anytime

I know what you like, I know what you'll really like
I know what you like, I don't have to read your mind
I know what you like, I know what you'll really like
I know what you like, you can hear it anytime

It's all waiting there for you
It's all waiting there for you

I know what you like, I know what you'll really like
I know what you like, I don't have to read your mind
I know what you like, I know what you'll really like
I know what you like, you can hear it anytime

I know what you like, I know what you'll really like
I know what you like, I don't have to read your mind (It's all waiting there for you)
I know what you like, I know what you'll really like
I know what you like, you can hear it anytime

I know what you like, I know what you'll really like (It's all waiting there)
I know what you like, I don't have to read your mind (It's all waiting there for you)
I know what you like, I know what you'll really like
I know what you like, you can hear it anytime

I know what you like, I know what you'll really like
I know what you like, I don't have to read your mind
I know what you like, I know what you'll really like
I know what you like, you can hear it anytime

About This Song

Carla is one of Harry’s many close friends IRL, and once he and some of his friends, including Carla, were hanging out at someone’s house before an afterparty, and Carla mentioned that she was getting into Paul Simon. Harry took interest in this, because he had grown up listening up to Simon and Garfunkel, and he decided to play Carla the album “Bridge Over Troubled Water” by Simon and Garfunkel, thinking that she might like it. He later said that watching her like listen to it having never heard that song felt like I was just watching someone see or something in like technicolor discover magic. There was something in that moment that reminded me of like what by making music what you’re investing in.
